Boston to Cape Cod • Description
Boston to Cape Cod, also known as Cape in a Day, is a classic New England ride. This ride starts in Back Bay and initially leads to the University of Massachusetts for a waterfront view of downtown Boston. Then it continues on William Morrissey Boulevard, Hancock Street, Quincy Shore Drive, and Sea Street, which merges into Route 3A.
Route 3A crosses Fore River Bridge, which can be raised to let ships pass, and parallels the Atlantic shoreline all the way to Cape Cod Canal. Sagamore Bridge connects the mainland with Cape Cod. Route 6A continues to parallel the shoreline, and at a traffic circle in Orleans, merges into Route 6. Route 6 leads all the way to Provincetown, located at the tip of Cape Cod.

Sandra and I went a few days to Boston for her marathon.
I rented a bike from Back Bay Bicycles and as usual put on my own pedals and seat. Thanks to Christy M. for getting the bike for me before the store closed. Also thanks a lot to Sandra for picking me up from Provincetown by rental car. Unfortunately, ferries are not running this time of the year.
The ride was less scenic than I anticipated, but definitely an adventure. I had some problems figuring out how to cross Cape Cod Canal, and ended up riding eight extra miles (to Bourne Bridge, Railroad Bridge, and back to Sagamore Bridge).
